Primary Section
Substation Plot Plan & 3D Model Conceptual Layout
A general layout for substation is prepared as per project technical specifications considering the site roads and building access and proposed locations.
This proposal is submitted to our clients for several discussions and reviewing during project starting phase
After finalizing this phase, now we have an optimum solution for our substation project.
Civil Guide Drawings:
In this stage, our objective is to prepare all civil guide drawings that required to start basic design phase for Civil & Architectural drawings.
Also, in this regard, we are creating several communications with clients to gather all information/data that required to finalize these drawings/documents.
Such these documents are very critical to be able to start initial site activities.
Such as site excavation, preparation & mobilization.
Equipment Arrangement Layout & Sections
A detailed drawing will be provided for substation main equipment to ensure that the proposed location for each equipment is achieving the optimum design as per project technical specifications and client’s requirements with respect to international standards and country regulations.
These drawings will indicate all information/data for each equipment that will be used for civil detailed drawings & calculations.
Grounding System
Such these projects, the safety precautions should be considered in high level bases, Grounding design system shall be prepared as international standards that related to substation projects.
This package of design will be prepared in many steps starting from site earthing measurements to get the actual native soil readings and accordingly we will start the remaining phases of grounding system design.
This package is very critical as we reach the optimum solution to keep our clients away from losing their target out of this item with considering all recommendations that mentioned in relative international standards.
Lightning Protection System
In continuation to a safety precautions section, The Substation location should be under study for lightning protection system as per international standards.
We are starting to study and prepare risk assessments report for this project and provide some solutions to achieve the proper design against the proposed lightning strike that may be happened.
Please note that the risk assessment report is very important to minimize the total cost of this item and the required factors is various as per project location and country regulations.
Lighting System
Indoor & outdoor Lighting systems are provided based on substation design criteria and the submitted design shall achieve the optimum illumination requirements for each indoor space and outdoor area.
Detailed drawings for lighting system will be prepared based on the lux study calculation report for each space or outdoor area.
The details & technical descriptions of each luminaire shall be attached with the lux study documents and all proposed luminaires types shall be matched with project requirements.
Luminaires types are selected based on the application and space requirements.
Small Power Distribution
Design drawings for Power network are prepared for each building and outdoor area according to project technical specifications with considering maintenance requirements.
Mechanical power supply shall be considered in power network design drawings according to mechanical design requirements, equipment list shall be prepared with all necessary information to complete the design of power network.

This package can be divided into the following systems:
Communication System
Voice and Data System
This section covers the work of the voice and data networks as required for the project.
The voice system shall be based on IP telephony technology or other conventional system as per project technical specifications.
The scope of work is extended to passive network components and all active component.
The voice and data system shall cover all project areas as indicated on design drawings.
The extent of work of the network is described by the project documents as indicated on Drawings, in schedules and on single line diagram of the project
Public Address
The public address system (PA) shall be used to provide background music and public announcements.
The public address system shall be also used to broadcast paging live messages and mute the Background Music (BGM).
The public address system shall receive control signals from fire alarm system in case of fire.
Voice evacuation messages and alarm tons shall be broadcasted by the Public Address system using the appropriate hardware and software modules required for interfacing between the Fire Alarm (FA) and the PA systems.
Interface equipment shall be included in the public address system to communicate with the FA system for receiving command of announcements. Supervisory signals shall be sent from the PA to the FA to confirm healthy situations or indicate fault.
The public address system main component as the following:
- Audio Matrix and workstation
- Preamplifiers (if required), power amplifiers
- Program sources (CD player, double cassette, tuner and paging microphone)
- Loudspeakers
- Monitor module panel
- Racks
Fire Alarm System
The proposed solution of fire alarm system shall have main fire alarm control panel FACP, and this panel shall include and cover all design requirements.
The provided fire alarm system shall be suitable for type of occupancy as defined by international standards and as per the local fire Authority for each country.
The fire alarm system shall be used to detect early start of fire in any location in the project and initiate the appropriate annunciation, alarm, interlocking and counter measures commands as described in the project design criteria.
The Fire Alarm system shall supervise all the functions of the equipment and devices including the connected safety related systems such as firefighting monitoring and control equipment, etc.
Fire Alarm solution shall consider Audible alarms, voice evacuation message and visual strobe lights will be used for annunciation.
The Design of Fire alarm system shall be interfaced with Public Address system, Elevators, smoke control equipment, emergency power systems and all other related systems.
Also, design drawings/documents shall include all necessary hardware and software for integrated complete and operable system in accordance with the requirements of the project.
Security System
CCTV
The hybrid based (IP / Analogue) CCTV system shall be used for security surveillance having color video cameras.
The CCTV System shall cover project areas as indicated on the detailed drawings which prepared based on the project technical specifications.
The proposed solution of video cameras locations shall be at suitable positions, which make them cover the intended fields of vision.
Also, during the design stage, it’s to be verifying spaces for equipment, based on actual dimensions of equipment furnished.
CCTV system shall be interfaced with security systems, and all other related systems.
INTRUSION SYSTEM
The intrusion detection system is a security system, which shall control access to certain areas and give alarm in case of unauthorized activities in order to achieve maximum-security in the project.
Intrusion Detection System shall be based on hardware (panel/s, detectors, panic buttons, interfaces, servers, workstations, printers, etc.) and related software.
All devices of the system shall be addressable to be monitored and controlled.
The optimum solution will provide a totally integrated system in case of having multi-vendor equipment and interfacing between the different components of the system and the other related systems.
MASTER CLOCK SYSTEM
In this section, we aim to make a solution to maintain correct synchronized time and transmit time-correction signals over dedicated system wiring from a master clock to PCs connected to the structured cabling network or Secondary Analog Synchronous Clocks.
In substation Project, it’s controlled by substation control system through GPS antenna as we have level of remote substation control which controlled by country electricity national grid authorizations.
Secondary Section
Main Single Line Diagram
This diagram indicates electrical systems that describe the project, for substation project, it’s defined the voltage levels of substation.
All necessary information/data shall be indicated in the proposed single line diagram to define each equipment for each voltage level.
Protection System, Relay & Metering Line Diagram
Relay & Metering Line Diagram is a detailed drawing that indicate the logic & protection philosophy will be used for substation protection system.
Protection devices data shall be indicated and manufacturer model numbers, this diagram shall cover all requirements that mentioned in the project technical specifications.
The optimum solution and a proper protection philosophy during design stage will save a lot of materials or devices which may be requested during testing & commissioning stage. And avoid additional works and modifications at site.
Cables Sizing Calculation
Such this calculation shall consider and cover the project technical specifications
Some information shall be provided by site team such as thermal resistance of native soil to consider these values during cables sizing calculation in case of direct buried cables.
The cables calculation report shall be done in accordance to relative international standards and verified cables calculation software.
AC/DC Systems
Preparing the electrical loads list based on the different manufacturer equipment, accordingly AC/DC systems sizing calculation will be started with considering all recommendations that mentioned in the international standards and project specifications.
Detailed description of AC/DC systems shall be indicated in the design package.
The provided system shall consider the AC/DC loads type and operation philosophy to avoid over design and higher capacity of AC/DC systems. So, a detailed study for each substation load and operation philosophy shall be provided separately for clients review and approval.
